Educational/Achievement Testing: Educational and Achievement Testing is used to determine if an individual has learning disabilities, is cognitively gifted, or to help better understand the individual’s learning style. Insights offers psychoeducational testing to determine intellectual abilities as well as academic performance levels. The ultimate purpose of the testing varies from individual to individual; however the primary reasons people seek an assessment is to determine if a child or adult has learning disabilities, and to assist with the development of a 504 Plan, Individual Education Plan (IEP), or Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). Understanding your child’s or your own learning profile can help with creating the most appropriate supports, accommodations and teaching styles to achieve one’s potential. Additionally, many parents report that understanding how their child learns helps to decrease conflict regarding homework and school performance. Insights does cognitive/educational testing for children and adults.

Learning Disability Testing: According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), “Learning disabilities are disorders that affect the ability to understand or use spoken or written language, do mathematical calculations, coordinate movements, or direct attention. Although learning disabilities occur in very young children, the disorders are usually not recognized until the child reaches school age. Research shows that 8 to 10 percent of American children under 18 years of age have some type of learning disability.” Accurate identification of Learning Disabilities drives appropriate treatments, interventions, and accommodations to address a student’s specific learning profile. Insights provides assessment for Leading Disorders to assist families in seeking individualized school supports, as well as help the student and their family better meet their needs across settings.

Adaptive Functioning Assessment: Adaptive functioning means how well a person handles common demands in life and how independent they are compared to others of a similar age and background.  Getting an adaptive functioning evaluation will help Insights know how much support you need compared to others and can help you/your child to access support and services.   Using the Vineland-II, Insights will evaluate the following areas:

  • Communication Skills (receptive, expressive, written)
  • Daily Living/Practical Skills (personal, domestic, community)
  • Socialization Skills (interpersonal, leisure, coping)
  • Motor Skills (gross and fine motor)
  • Behaviors (internalizing, externalizing, maladaptive)
